Theatre for Living's Annual Training Workshop Information

Organizing accommodations as early as possible is a good idea. July and August are peak season in Vancouver! Below is some information to assist you with making arrangements for your stay.

Check out www.hostelz.com. The site lists all hostels for free and includes direct contact info for hostels as well as photos and reviews. But, unless you want a lot of parties and drugs where you are staying, stay away from the Cambie hostels or any others marked “party hostel”. Take that seriously.

Also be aware, while the Jericho hostel is in a very beautiful place, it is also about a 40 minute bus ride to and from the Ukrainian Hall, where we will be working. The downtown hostels are about a 20-30 minute bus ride.

Airbnb is obviously an option, especially if you can find something close and share with other participants. Once people start registering, I can ask if they’d like to be put in a special database to be linked up for sharing – but someone other than me (like you?) will need to co-ordinate that.

The YWCA Hotel offers a variety of rooms from private with bath and TV to dormitory-style. All rooms have a fridge and telephone. Guests have free access to an off-premises gym and pool (15 min walk). The YWCA is located just east of the downtown core, approximately a 20 min bus ride from the workshop space.

YWCA rates vary by season, room type and length of stay. Daily rates begin at $78 (Canadian) per night (bathroom down hallway). They also have discounted rates for students, seniors, YWCA members and weekly stays.

Homestay.ca can help you find a homestay at a fairly reasonable price in Vancouver. Be aware that for transportation sake, you’ll need something in VANCOUVER, not North or West Vancouver, Surrey, Coquitlam, etc.

Executive Suites Hotel Burnaby A training Alumnus stayed here in 2023 and let me know that if 2 people share a room with 2 beds, it should cost less that $150 CAD/night (including breakfast), which unfortunately is reasonable for Vancouver. It is a 45 minute bus ride to the workshop space (a 15 minute drive).

Vancouver has a wide selection of hotels and motels that vary dramatically in price. I tend to use Trivago when I travel, as it checks best rates via various sites.
